Iceland's third tallest waterfall is famous for the vivid red and black horizontal stripes of its canyon walls — layers of basalt separated by ancient red clay sediment deposited during warm interglacial periods millions of years ago. The 128-metre falls drop in a single sheer column past these geological records, making the canyon one of the most visually striking in all of Iceland.
