Eilífur

The name

Eilífur

In Icelandic, eilífur means eternal. It is also the name of a palagonite tufa mountain in the Mývatnsöræfi highlands of Northeast Iceland — a sharp, pyramid-shaped peak formed by subglacial eruptions, visible from Dettifoss on a clear day.

The mountain is not famous. It does not appear on tourist maps. But my family's land is nearby — bought by my great-grandfather, where my grandmother grew up, and where I spent countless weeks as a child surrounded by lava fields, open sky, and the kind of silence that stays with you. Herðubreið rises perfectly on the horizon from our place. Eilífur gave this brand its name.

Eilífur is a small creative studio run by Bjarni and Eva — an Icelandic-German couple who met in Iceland twelve years ago, drawn together by the same pull toward wild places.

Bjarni trains and develops the AI models used to create the poster imagery, shaping them carefully to reflect his own visual language and understanding of Icelandic landscapes. Each image is then selected, refined, and prepared by hand. Bjarni and Eva paint the relief maps together — raised topographic pieces that turn Iceland into something you can hold, not just view. The 3D printed reliefs are produced by Bjarni himself.

The work is created with the intention of reaching people without unnecessary distance or waste. The bird window art and lithophanes are designed by Bjarni and produced through Craftcloud’s global 3D printing network. The posters are printed via Gelato’s partner facilities, positioned as close to the customer as possible. The digital files remain identical to those used for print — full resolution, colour-profiled, and ready to be produced anywhere in the world.

The vinyl records are Bjarni's music. That has been going on longer than any of this.

Iceland is a country that defies easy description. Its light is different from anywhere else on earth. Its landscapes are violent, asymmetric, and ancient — the result of forces still at work. We have spent years trying to do them justice.

This shop is dedicated to my grandmother, who grew up on that land. She passed away in November 2024.

Eilífur is based in Germany. All prices include EU VAT where applicable. Prints are fulfilled locally — produced and shipped from the fulfilment centre nearest to you.
