Herðubreið

Herðubreið — the queen of Icelandic mountains — rises in near-perfect isolation from the vast lava desert of Ódáðahraun, its flat-topped, sheer-flanked tuya form unlike any other mountain in Europe. Shaped by eruptions under a glacier during the last ice age, the 1,682-metre summit was long considered unclimbable and was first ascended only in 1908.
