Rauðisandur

Rauðisandur — Red Sands — is one of Iceland's most extraordinary and least-visited beaches: a long sweep of rare reddish-gold sand in the remote Westfjords, coloured by fossilised sea shell fragments in the volcanic sediment. At low tide, the shallow bay reflects the sky across an enormous expanse of tidal flat, creating a landscape unlike anywhere else in Iceland.
