A near-perfect tephra crater ring rising 170 metres above the shores of Lake Mývatn, formed in a single explosive eruption around 2,500 years ago. A path circles the entire rim, with views into the vast, empty crater on one side and across the bizarre volcanic landscape of the Mývatn area on the other.
